The Beurtveer starts on Monday afternoon in Workum. Then there is day and night sailing. The unique thing about the Beurtveer is that several ports along the IJsselmeer have to be visited, but that the engine should not be used anywhere. For 5 days let’s relive the old sailing. This is a pretty intense contest for the more fanatical sailor. Because intensive preparation is always required, everyone can come on board as early as Sunday evening.

Beurtveer (Workum < > Amsterdam)
The Beurtveer departs from Workum on Monday afternoon. She then sails day and night. The uniqueness of the Beurtveer lies in the fact that several harbours along the IJsselmeer have to be visited, but nowhere is the engine allowed to be used. For 5 days the old sailing tradition is revived. This is quite an intense race for the more enthusiastic sailors. In 2018 we managed to complete our round with 0 engine minutes and finished in 8th place. With a crew of 19! That was actually too few. In 2022 we crossed the finish line in 5th place with a crew of 22, not bad either, but unfortunately we had to make 1 engine minute. But things started to improve. In 2023 and 2024 we finished without any engine minutes and now we sail with a full crew (about 26) and a great cook!

Johanna Engelina
The Johanna Engelina is a 38-metre sailing clipper. Built in 1897 and with approx. 800m2 sail on board. All competitions can accommodate up to 33 people. Accompanied by an experienced crew, you will have the chance to experience a very spectacular event. Sailing experience is not required, conviviality is. Every competition also involves an experienced cook. Because with an empty stomach you can’t sail!
The Johanna Engelina is an original Zeeland two-mast clipper. The ship is equipped with a spacious deck for sunbathing or helping with sailing. Below deck you will find a cozy day care, attractive huts and a well-equipped galley.
