Description
The Pieperrace is a Volendammer sailing spectacle of allure, organized by the Pieperrace Foundation on the southern IJsselmeer off the coast of Volendam. This annual event is the start of the sailing season.
This competition for traditional sailing ships honours the memory of how the Volendammer Kwakken (large botters that only occurred in Volendam), during the period 1943-1945, were used to sail potatoes (pagers) from Friesland. Among other things, the pagers were intended for the Amsterdam hospitals.
The Pieperrace takes place on the doorstep of Volendam. Traditionally, this is the opening game of the new season.

If you run this weekend you have to wait until October to be able to race again.
Sailing experience is not required, conviviality is. All competitions include food, drinks, beer and wine. You have to provide a sleeping bag and waterproof clothing yourself.

Friday evening April 4th 2025
On Friday evening you are welcome on board from 21.00 hrs. The evening will consist of boarding, a welcome speech by Laurens, getting to know your fellow travellers and, for the enthusiasts, a visit to the nightlife of Volendam, where the ships slowly arrive. Of course, you can also use your drinks and food onboard.

Saturday April 5th
On Saturday morning, after a nice breakfast, sailing instruction and team layout, we throw the bunches loose and choose the spacious sop. Laurens has since been to the palaver and knows which job is being sailed. From 10:30 a.m. onwards, the regatta will start in different classes, the finish will be in the course of the afternoon, no later than 17:00.

Sunday April 6th
On Sunday there will be another race, a slightly shorter round, so that everyone can still go to the award ceremony in the Hole of the Netherlands at 17:00.
We organize all competitions including catering. If you want to join or have questions, you can call Laurens Orange (+316-21506336) or email info@johannaengelina.nl. You can also book directly via the site by clicking on book directly.
