Exterior & Deck — Clipper Johanna Engelina from the Outside

The Johanna Engelina is a fast sailer — and we work hard to keep her that way. As you walk across the deck and look up, you see a tangle of steel wires and ropes running up along the two masts. We need every one of them: not only to hoist the sails, but above all to trim them into the optimum position that gives the ship her speed. The longer you sail aboard the Johanna Engelina, the better you learn to understand and handle the lines, halyards and sheets.

    The Deck

Above deck, the Johanna Engelina is laid out so that we can sail her in a very hands-on, spirited way. But when we are in a less active mood, we can also let ourselves be carried along with a minimum of effort.

    The Afterdeck

The afterdeck with the ship's wheel and the compass in front of it — from here we steer the ship and keep an eye on everything.

    The Cockpit

The midships cockpit, a large, sheltered seating area. From here you can enjoy the voyage with — whenever possible — a nice bite to eat and a drink to go with it. Even in a force 5 wind, the wine still will not slide off the deck.

    The Bow

Finally the bow, with the jib boom projecting even further out ahead of it. For the daredevils who venture into the jib net, it is a fine spot to lash the sails together.
