A week-long sailing trip on the clipper Johanna Engelina is the ultimate way to discover the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea and the Wadden Islands with your group. For seven days you sail across the most beautiful waters of the Netherlands — from the historic harbour towns around the IJsselmeer to the unspoilt nature of the Wadden Islands. The week-long trip usually starts on Saturday morning in Harlingen, but there is also the option to book a pre-night so you can come aboard on Friday evening. After a welcome and introductions, safety instructions follow along with an explanation of how to operate the sails, leeboards, winches and lines aboard. Depending on the weather forecast and your wishes, skipper Laurens puts together the route. On a week-long trip it is possible to call at several Wadden Islands: Terschelling, Vlieland, Ameland or Texel. In favourable conditions we run aground on a sandbank in the middle of the Wadden Sea — a unique experience you will not find anywhere else. A trip across the Noord-Hollands Kanaal or along the Frisian Lakes is also among the possibilities. During the day you can sail along actively — hoisting the sails, taking the helm, navigating — or relax on deck with a book and the view. Our experienced cook prepares breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Coffee, tea, buttermilk, soft drinks, beer and wine are included all week. The week-long trip on the Johanna Engelina is ideal for families, groups of friends, associations and companies who want to share a special week on the water. The ship accommodates up to 33 people on multi-day trips. Every trip is unique — the route is put together in consultation based on the weather, the wind and your wishes.

Frequently asked questions
How many people can join on the Johanna Engelina?
On a day trip there is room for up to 53 people. On multi-day sailing trips with overnight stays the ship accommodates up to 33 people (31 with catering aboard), spread over 10 cabins with hot and cold running water.
Which harbours does the Johanna Engelina sail from?
In the summer season (May–October) Harlingen (Nieuwe Willemskade) is the home port; in winter (November–April) it is the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam. On request, Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Muiden and other harbours are also possible.
Do I need to know how to sail to come along?
No. Everyone can pitch in with hoisting the sails and taking the helm, but simply relaxing on deck is just as welcome. Skipper Laurens — who has sailed the Johanna Engelina since 1999 — and his crew handle all the sailing tasks.
How is the route of the sailing trip decided?
The route is put together with skipper Laurens based on the weather, the wind and your wishes. Options include the IJsselmeer and Markermeer with historic harbour towns such as Volendam, Hoorn and Medemblik, or the Wadden Sea with Terschelling, Vlieland and running aground on a sandbank.
